We hit the streets of Camden once again with our girls Lt. Linda Alicea and her daughter Cynthia Melendez. The department believes they might be the only mother-daughter police pair in the country right now. This time the two gave us a glimpse of some of the technology that makes their lives easier and helps them crack down on crime. Ashley first went up in the Skywatch, which feels like something out of "The Jetsons." It's soars 30 feet into the air, allowing Camden officers to see as far as the Walt Whitman Bridge, monitoring suspicious individuals and catching criminals. "With your training as police officers you pick up on a lot," Alicea said. "You can see if someone is suspicious and about to do a crime. Not only that but you can watch individuals when they don't know you're watching them.". Then we made our way to their mobile command center, where police have everything they need at their fingertips -- running license plates or printing fliers for missing persons, for example. It resembles what the actual command post at headquarters. Chief Scott Thomson said another key piece of technology is the Shotspotter system, which indicates exactly where gunshots are coming from. We asked him since we last visited Camden two and a half years ago what progress has the city seen. Thomson said crime and murder have been reduced, but more important is "a better relationship with the community.".
