Sadness is considered meaningless by the other emotions, who ostracize and disrespect Sadness. Riley's memories are in the form of glass spheres, called memory orbs. Each orb has a different color based upon the emotion of the memory. The most relevant orbs, called core memories, power up islands in Riley's subconscious that represent her personality.
