2014 SLS Nike SB World Tour: Stop 1

Stop One of the 2014 Street League Nike SB World Tour was a beast. We introduced a brand new course layout unlike anything we’ve seen in the past, the biggest change was the obvious lack of rails. This course catered to faster, more technical skating and less to big impact tricks. But it was only a matter of time before the SLS Pros adjusted to the course design and started ripping. In the beginning, Chicago was anyone’s game, but in the final moments it all came down to a heated battle between Nyjah Huston, Luan Oliveira and Shane O’Neill. With consistent execution in the Flow, Impact and Control Sections, Nyjah had what it took to edge out Shane and Luan for the victory, but only by a fraction of a point. For the first time since 2012, last year’s Champ, Chris Cole, didn’t advance to the finals after qualifying 14th in the Prelims. Meanwhile, Paul Rodriguez and Tommy Sandoval had very strong showing in the Prelims; Paul qualifying second and Tommy third. Unfortunately, Tommy wasn’t able to maintain that momentum through the Finals finishing eighth, and Paul finished sixth after a Switch Front Blunt in the Control Section, the same trick he did in the Finals Impact section, resulting in a 0.0 score due to the event format rule that states a trick cannot be repeated in the Finals. Final Chicago Top 8 Standings:. Nyjah Huston – 52.4. Luan Oliveira – 52.3. Shane O’Neill – 50.6. Torey Pudwill – 48.5. Bastien Salabanzi – 38.1. Paul Rodriguez – 31.9. Matt Berger – 6.5.
