Warner Brothers has shifted their schedule of upcoming DC movies and we’re breaking it down right now on Clevver Newsfeed. It looks like we won’t have to wait quite as long for next year’s Wonder Woman movie. Warner Brothers has announced they are pushing up the release of next year’s Wonder Woman starring Gal Gadot as the title hero from June 23rd, 2017 to June 2nd, 2017. The film was originally set to go head-to-head with the fifth installment of the juggernaut that is Transformers, but will now face-off against Bad Boys 3 and the animated Captain Underpants movie. In addition to Gadot, Wonder Woman is set to star Chris Pine, Robin Wright and Connie Nielsen and will act as an origin story for the character with the film taking place during World War I. In addition to the Wonder Woman release date switch, the studio has also announced release dates for two untitled DC films; October 5th, 2018 and November 1st, 2019. It’s unclear if these will be two new titles or date changes for previously revealed films. While Warner Brothers had previously alluded to films like The Flash and Aquaman arriving in 2018, they have only officially set dates for this summer’s Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman and the first Justice League movie, which is set to arrive in theaters on November 17th, 2017. If The Flash and Aquaman remain in their original 2018 release dates, the most likely candidate for a new film taking either the October 5th, 2018 or November 1st, 2019 release date would be a new Batman movie. It was recently revealed that Ben Affleck had already written a script and Batman v Superman director Zack Snyder has hinted that Affleck will make it his next directorial effort once he completes work on next year’s Live by Night. Outside of their DC properties, Warner Brothers also announced that Andy Serkis’ directorial debut, Jungle Book: Origins, will be pushed a year from October 6th, 2017 to October 19th, 2018. The fully motion-capture film recently went in production with Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Benedict Cumberbatch and Naomie Harris set to star. While it’s assumed that the delay is in response to Disney’s The Jungle Book, which is set to arrive in theaters next weekend, Serkis took to Facebook to assure fans the delay is a good thing saying quote, “What we are attempting is an unprecedented level of psychological and emotional nuance in morphing the phenomenal performances of our cast into the facial expressions of our animals…Every minute more that we have to evolve the technological pipeline will make all the difference…This is truly next generation storytelling, and it will be the real deal!” So who out there is excited to see Wonder Woman a few weeks earlier and which movies do you think will take those other two release date spots.
